Food pairing with regional beers

Food pairing, a trend that has been around for some time now in the culinary world, means the (successful) combination of various dishes and beverages. One of the food pairing trends strongly spotlighted in recent years and even today, is the combination with beers and especially regional beers. Throughout the Leven in de Brouwerij campaign of Vlaanderen Lekker Land, hotels, restaurants and pubs were already stimulated to use beer in and along with dishes. It was a delicious discovery. So let’s just continue this delightful trend!

Beer in dishes

Beer has been a part of many delicious dishes for centuries. It has never really gone out of fashion in Belgian tradition.

Because beer has more varied flavours than wine and its taste tends to quickly go bitter in preparations, the use of beer is often limited to aromatising sauces. It usually suffices to replace the quantity of wine with a dash of beer. After all, the bitterness of beer is enhanced while cooking.

Beer alongside dishes

We are all too familiar with beer and cocktail snacks! However, we can be much more original than that, because beer goes well with numerous snacks and large or small dishes. It is an additional asset for hotels, restaurants and pubs as well as a delight for customers who discover it.

Hoppas, the latest trend, was developed by Ilse Duponcheel of the Dolce Far Tutto consulting firm. She is clearly an advocate of beer deserving its spot at tables in brasseries, pubs and especially restaurants. When beer is combined with dedicated snacks, the gastronomic experience is made complete.
