No wonder that 2009 was proclaimed the ‘year of beer’ in Flanders! A year in which a lot of good things were brewing!
Nevertheless, only one year of beer festivities proved to be insufficient! After all, in addition to the many delicious beers, the province of Antwerp hosts plenty of great activities which complete the experience and go much further than just tasting the countless regional and local beers. Today, the region still totals 10 active breweries, of varying sizes, but centuries ago there were many more. In spite of the small number of breweries, beer culture is very much alive and kicking in and around Antwerp; new local beers are regularly developed or rediscovered and delicious thematic activities are put in the spotlight. This web site, which started out as a scribble on the back of a beer coaster, is intended as your guide on a beer adventure through the province of Antwerp.
